What's your lifestyle? If it matches your name, you only need a place to store your things while you're on the go.

If you plan on having frequent visits from the grandchildren, you may want to have the extra space in a house.

Are there homeowner's associations with either? Look at the total cost (maintence free vs mowing yourself), figure the difference and what want to do with the extra cash.

Also, look at the area associated with homes and townhomes. What kind of neighborhood do you want to be in? One with older people like yourself, easy access without driving to shops, a playground (not for you but the grandchildren), etc.

Weigh the pros and cons. Good luck!

That depends on what you want and how much you can take care of. In a townhouse, you might get lawn care covered. In a house, you could always hire someone to do that anyway.

There is no way to say one or the other just based on the properties of a townhouse and home.

Everyone here assumes a Townhouse is a Condo. IT IS NOT! A townhouse is a STYLE of construction. Some are condos and some are not. Not all condos are townhouses either. Some condos are single family homes of various styles.

I recommend something where it's all on one floor, so you don't have stairs. If you can find something in a metro area, where there is public transportation right outside the door and restaurants nearby, you can enjoy that more when you age. If it's a place where you have to have a car to get anywhere, you're going to have to move again when you can no longer drive.

Townhouse - most of the outside maintenance (lawn, outside repairs etc) is taken care of by your association. I live in one and LOVE it!

Condo actually. Less space to clean. Not usually stairs. Someone else-professionals-take care of the lawn, snow shovelling, etc.
