Do you feel like the government is doing a good job protecting the American citizens? I don't, and I wonder how many really do feel safe?

I can tell you right now that just because we have not had another terrorist attack has nothing to do with the fact that Bush is doing a good job protecting us. It's sheer luck and amazing that suicide bombers have not started over here.

A test of the airlines showed that items were still getting past security. I'm not talking about lighters, open bottles and smalls stuff...I'm talking Guns, knives and explosives.

I do feel safe in this country because we have the most advanced and strongest military in the world. Now do I feel safe with Bush? Bush is one reason why I fear a future attack on us. He has been the cause and problem of all this. From the day he took office this country has gone down hill. and gas prices rose over a dollar and quarter almost two dollars in some states. Its becuase of Bush and other reasons (such as welfare money going to those who do not need it) that we may not have SS money when we retire. If this happens people will be forced to work til the day they die. Now i'm saying that Kerry would have done a good job. I do not think that he could have helped. What we need is another President like FDR, a great man who took this country when it was at its worst and brought it out of something that some people believed that would never to have happened (and yes WWII helped but TRV jobs like that are why we came out of the depression) After the war in Iraq I will fill as safe as I was before 9-11.

While I do believe that security is an illusion, the fact that we have not had any new attacks since 911 is a pretty good reason to feel secure. Let's judge this against how many terrorist attacks we had during the previous administration both by domestic and foreign terrorists. The reason we have not had any new attacks is not luck. It is a combination of 2 factors. The first is that we have stepped up intelligence gathering and removed roadblocks to multiple agency communication enacted under Clinton. The second is that terrorist resources and personnel are tied up fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are holes in security and they should be addressed as we should always remain vigilant against potential threats. However, if you do not feel safe in the current climate then you will never feel safe no matter who is in power.

as long as I stay contained in the US i think thoroughly danger-free with him as President because i recognize a few history. i recognize he's a conflict monger, his daddy is a conflict monger and his grand dad develop into in protection/guns market. So i recognize that the momment a reputable threat made by comparison usa Bush will be able to blow them up b4 breakfast. yet I dont experience danger-free after I go away the country for vacation trips and stuff cuz of all the undesirable sentiment he's stirred up with the unwell recommended project into Iraq.

Bush or no Bush - I feel very safe in this country.
Now, is the government doing this or that to "protect" us? Well, long story. Is it?
As far as the airline security goes...

Chemicals (usually very unstable), bombs etc. are probably nearly impossible to smuggle onto a plane these days.
What to do: Put two fully armed and well trained "officials" on each plane - in visible view - by the cockpit door - like they do (I believe) on Israeli airlines. See if anyone tries to pull a fast one then.
Any maniac who sees two dudes ready to hose them with their M-16s will think TWICE about their "grand" plans. Guaranteed. And if THAT doesn't help, trust me, if ANYONE in this country (USA) tries to hijack a plane holding up a knife or so, they WILL get jumped by every single person in the cabin. People (we) know now. If you're gonna go down, might as well go down swingin'!

But we ain't goin' down any time soon!

I feel safe. You can say what you want to say, but if Bush was really doing that bad of a job with national security, we would have been attacked already. I give him credit on that part. Besides, I'm not gonna let some cowardly terrorists force me into fear. They can bring it on, it doesn't scare me. If you let them scare you, then they've won. That's what they want. They're the ones that should be scared. And for all the Liberals that are against the phone tapping. All i have to say is Why? If you're not doing anything wrong and have nothing to hide, then what's the problem. You won't be phone tapped unless you are a suspected terrorist or make constant international calls.

Yes I still feel safe.

But, is America less safe now with Bush at the helm? YES, because his ill-advised invasion of Iraq has polarized the majority of the World Islamic community against America.

Prior to 9/11 we had one Osama Bid Laden. Thanks to Bush, we have a couple hundred now.

Would you feel safer with Kerry?? or Hillary?? I wouldn't. If they brought all our troops home, would they be willing to fight terrorists on the White House lawn?? Doubt it..... Did you also know that up until Bush that every war of the last century was started by a Democrat? Do you know how bad the President's polls were by the end of WWII? Start doing more research into history and know what you are talking about before you make statements that really don't make much sense. Not everything you learn should be learned by the evening news.

Yes. I feel much safer than I would if the Clintons or Gore were in charge. They'd sell us to a foreign country and tell us it's better that way.
I'd feel even safer if Bush would fight this war on terror like it should be...instead of just establishing a presence and returning fire...we should be attacking. We should dominate these 3rd world countries until they stop advocating the killing of innocent people for their religious and/or political beliefs. Then give the country back to people that don't think human bombs are a good thing.
