well yes of course it can, just as mens hormones and agressive behaviour can lead to the same thing.
It's not only women who suffer from hormonal imbalance, men do too. It's just woman are all lumped under the same umberella as "emotional beings" due to their hormones. You never hear someone say "He's hormonal at the moment" do you?

I think it's like being drunk. Sometimes things bother you but you don't say anything until you are good and drunk and don't give a crap. I believe that PMS is usually just a time when women don't hold back where normally they would. That being said... I would say that in some women, in some instances, the hormones are too strong and they get mad at things when they shouldn't. BUT men have testosterone which also accounts for them getting really mad when they shouldn't especially when they are drinking. Alot of people tend to focus on women having raging hormones with PMS because they are predictable and they happen every month. Men's testosterone is unpredictable and can go long periods of time without it or long periods of time with it . Either way both of these can be controlled. Just look at the first few months of dating. Both people are peaches and cream until they decide they are invovled enough that they can let a little out slowly and it progresses from there.

Don't be afraid of female hormones and PMS. It can provoke some psycho-physical changes, but it does not automatically mean loosing ones mind and common sense. Male's testosterone can also provoke very bad and destructive reactions. If these changes are so drastic that person is loosing control, then there is some deeper psycho-physical problem in her and PMS just can make it more intensive. It cannot be blamed for break up and woman should not be reduced on some simple mindless organism just because she does not behave the way you are expecting. She has certain reasons to be nervous, angry or tired just as you have, and please keep it in mind if you come to some conflict. The reasons for break-up can be in you as well , or better between you two. Listening, understanding and communication BETWEEN partners is essential. Women are not some automates that you can handle just following the instructions for use.
Actually, I agree with paintmeblue. PMS is an overestimated myth construed to disqualify women.

Of course it CAN be a hidden cause of most anything if the people involved choose to believe that it is. Sometimes it is easier to pin 'blame' than to confront the real reasons.
Look at it this way. If PMS of the woman is so awful, would not the truly caring partner be expressing concern in such a way that the woman could understand that her behavior is not normal and is hurting their relationship? If the relationship was good to begin with, communication of this nature would be welcomed and expected. To just sit back and wonder if PMS was a cause of the break-up, shows non-involvement, at best, and causes an outsider to wonder, "Hmm, what other aspect of the relationship were these folks not involved in?"
So, to answer your original question, yes, it CAN, but really, if you are honest with yourself, I bet you can come up with a bunch of valid reasons for the failure if you tried.

I'd say it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Yes PMS and "our" hormones make us bitchy, cranky, miserable, rotten all those other things...BUT many of us are in relationships that we are not happy with and when the PMS hits, watch out, that's the first place we go to find something to ***** about. If the male counterpart is not sympathetic and understanding, it very well could lead to a breakup. Going through it myself now!

For the record, i in my opinion do not use PMS as an excuse (and that i have PMDD)... I DO, besides the indisputable fact that, use it as a contributing element to why i'd act a particular way. also, pondering what women bypass with the help of (and definite, i understand adult males have all forms of topics too) that's large to have adult males decrease us a smash. that's the single week out of the month that our bodies administration and result our moods, our body structure, our quantity of water-retention, and our muscular tissues (between distinct different elements). basically supply her some help. in case you confront her, do it gently. or maybe more beneficial, at the same time as she is PMSing, furnish to get her actual one of her well known treats (like ice cream for instance). be conscious: in case you do this attempt to devour more beneficial than her. We already experience bloaty sufficient, so make us experience more beneficial about eating a lot of crap we crave!

HIDDEN, there's nothing 'hidden' about PMS my friend...it's apparent from the look on her face. Best advice (from someone who HAS PMS) is to stay away when she gets that look on her face, wait to say whatever you are feeling like saying until another day...there's no arguing with a women in the throes of a HORMONAL FIT! :)

You know, PMS dosen't acually exist. Or rather, its a western-only thing. Research with tribal women around the world showed that they don't experience it. I have a sneaking suspicion that alot of women buy into the pms thing as an excuse to act like a jerk for a few days..
to be fair, I AM a girl, and I do know that the whole process is uncomfortable, and that can put you in a bad mood. But the whole mood swings thing? complete BS.
So, no, it isn't possible. Congrats, buddy, she left you for a different reason

I suggest pamprin and drugs. I am quite the cranky b*tch and know it and take the drugs then I'm all better, though still sensitive. I will cry when I break a nail. Be thankfull you got the economy model. (male body) and be very understanding to your female friends. If they are a bit cranky, say your mom uses pamprin or something and it may make them feel better to buy some and keep it for the hard to manage days.

Well PMS and stuff can make women very crankey, i do know that someone i knew had her period and was being all cranky and got very mad at her husband. They didn't break up, but i am sure that sometimes PMS can cause couples to break up espeically if they are not married or engaged
