1400 out of 2400 is 2/3. On the old scoring 2/3 would be 1072.
I do interviewing for a college. People used to say they needed 1200 to get in. We use a formula of the SAT, grade point average and rank in class to get a score and then put interview information, writing on the application and extracurricular items into perspective.
The ACT show better if you are scientifically inclined. Colleges will look at any information that they get.Letters of recommendation are good.

The SAT has three parts. For each part the average score is about 500 - 520, so the average total is around 1500 -1560. !400 is not a very good score. It will not get you into any prestigious colleges. It is not terrible, though, so maybe you should study up and see if you can do better the next time. If you could add on another 150 or 200 points that would mean a lot.

The SAT has three parts: critical reading, writing, and math. The highest score you can get on each is 800. That is why it is out of 2400. I believe collegeboard added the writing part because the ACT was offering an optional writing part and they wanted to even the playing field.
unfortunately, I don't believe that score will get into a very prestigious university. If you do want to up the score, the collegeboard has this "question of the day" where you can do a practice question from the SAT every day. It certainly improved my score.

Most colleges don't go by your SAT or ACT scores alone. They take into consideration your grades in High School and other colleges, what activites you were part of, your interview or paper you have to write for admission, and many other things. I know 2 people who were trying to get into vet school at the same college, they both scored the same on their SAT's, they both were very smart, one grew up on a dairy farm the other grew up in the city and played basketball, the girl who grew up on the farm scored higher on the entrance exam to get into the vet school, who do you think they let in? The one who played basketball. Me myself I would have rather had the one who grew up on a farm, but the college is know for their basketball players.
