I am 5 days late for my period. I have never been late for a period before except when I was pregnant with my son. I have not been using birthcontrol or condoms. I seen a nurse practicioner today, and she gave me a perscription for provera. Provera is suppose to start your period for you, but it is extremely important that you not take it during pregnancy. It can cause severe birthdefects. I feel so uncomfortable taking it, because I feel pregnant. I have been sick and tired. Not the same as with my first child. I am not ready for another child, but I don't want to risk hurting my child if I am. I took a negative pregnancy test today my 5 th day of being late. Should I take the medication, or should I see a different doctor willing to give me a blood test?

False negative urine tests are extremely common. If they did a blood test and it was negative I would go ahead and take it. If you don't feel comfortable taking the Provera I wouldn't take it until you know for sure. I would call them back and let them know that you feel pregnant, you are uncomfortable taking the Provera and you won't take it until they give you a blood test.

False negatives are not all that common but it is possible that the pregnancy hormone hcg hasn't had enough time to build up and be excreeted in your urine. If I were in your position I absolutely would NOT take the provera until you know for sure. It is perfectly safe to go up to 3 months without a period so you aren't doing any damage to your body. I would wait a few weeks, take another test (or probably more like a dozen in my case, lol) and if still no period see a ob/gyn for a blood test. Better safe than sorry! Also, you could always call the NP back and ask her to put in orders for a blood test just for peace of mind--she probably would.

If you're not sure... don't take the meds. You've been pregnant before... go with your gut instinct. Better safe than sorry. Hopefully everything will turn out the way you want.

deffinatley see another doctor, if ur late...o well, u dont want to hurt ur kid so just be late if u r and later when a pregnancy would be more acrate then take tha test, if ur not pregnant then talk to ur doctor

get a blood test hun !!!! It took 3 months with my first to show up.... Blood test are affordable, or make payments........
