I'm 37 weeks pregnant, dilated to a 2 (almost a 3), and 80% effaced. I've had no contractions, just a lot of pressure and the doctor said the head is really low. Any mom's have any idea on how much longer it might be? I know sex helps labor, but are there any other ways to kick start labor?

1st CONGRATS!!! I am a mom of 4 and it sounds to me like you are gonna have a pretty easy go at delivery.... Sex is good because semen softens the cervix. Here's the prob though., you are already dilated to 2 cm and 80%, and still only 37 wks along....while that is a SAFE zone to give birth I wouldn't do anything to hasten it at this point, one, sex can cause bacteria to enter into the uterus should you have a slow leak, and two, you don't want a sick baby at birth. Now if you have orgasms yourself, where nothing is entering you, you might be safer at this point. Contractions from your orgasm can get things going as well, spicy food, powerwalking, keep plenty of water on you though..... I wish you luck and it'll be time before you know it and I understand you're probably just DONE being pg, but it'll happen when it's the right time, even if that means the wrong time for you.... :O)

I have a 19 month old boy and a 10 week old boy. One was born at ten and a half weeks and the youngest born on the day that I turned 37 weeks and they are both very healthy and had no problems when they were born. I was dilated to a 3 and 80% effaced and was very miserable. I went to walmart and walked around for an hour and a half while carrying my toddler around (he always used my belly as his seat) and in the middle of the night that night, my water broke and I had my healthy little boy.

I'm a midwife in the Phiolippines for 11years before I moved here. Anytime you may deliver your baby, for the dilatation 10cm, effacement 100% and the contraction of the uterus should be every minute, this is the time to beardown and the head is station 3....or verylow.
So I'm giving you an idea how close you are to deliver your baby. Walking around the block for atleast 20minutes will help to induce labor. But if you experience rupture of bag of water (amiotic water) a sudden gush of water from your vagina. Call your doctor as soon as posible.time for hospital admission. Good
luck.

Realisticaly you have 3 weeks left.

At 37 weeks pregnant with twins, I was 1cm dilated and 95% effaced. I was not progressing any further. I was induced and told it would take 5 hours max due to being so effaced with one baby bouncing on my cervix since 23 weeks. Unfortunately, it took 19 hours. But at 37 weeks with twins, I was considered Full Term, you however, are not.

Every woman is different. You may not progress quickly and you may progress extremely quickly. I was also told sex, walking and going up and down stairs would help..but it really didnt.

I suggest waiting it out. You've gone this long whats a few more weeks? Especially since a baby born at 37 weeks still has the potential to be born with health risks. If your doctor is suspecting issues or decides you're done baking your baby and its ready to come out, he or she will set up an induction date (or csection date depending on how you plan to deliver)

Dont try and induce labor on your own. Its dangerous.

I believe a majority of these solutions are BS. Your husband does wish you. And you CAN have intercourse up until supply day until your in a prime danger being pregnant or your health care provider has informed you to not. Im 34 weeks pregnant. And we now have had this situation. Ive simply gotten so tight. Try gambling round slightly earlier than. Let him play with you down there and it's going to loosen you up or take a look at it within the bathe. Good Luck and I understand how you suppose.

This is actually a woman answering, despite the avatar (my hubby's account)....

Your body is going to do what it is ready to do. Attempts to kick start will certainly get you contracting, but won't necessarily bring on proper labor. You could just end up miserable. Sex is really great for getting those contractions going. Other people recommend caster oil, nipple stimulation, a variety of herbals (like black cohosh, cayenne pepper, etc) but from my experience and others, if your body isn't ready to go on its own it won't, but you will exhaust yourself emotionally and phycially trying to get it done.

Those last few weeks are murderous, so good luck and hang in there! You may go early if that is what your baby wants, but either way it will all be so worth your grief in the end! Happy waiting.

Please Shannon don't stress it. Do your baby a favor, I know most of us want them out asap, but the truth is that the longer the better for the baby, well in your conditions anyways. So just rest and don't try anything since the baby's head is low already, you don't want to end up walking 3 miles and facing labor in the middle of the street or without any help just because you want the baby out already. Please be safe, you freaking me out!

There are some ways that may possibly help but at 37 weeks I wouldnt suggest using them.Just let it progress naturally. The longer the baby stays in there the better chance he will have.

Lots of walking helps...sex didn't work for my wife and I...my wife walked around at 5cm for 3 weeks before anything happened. Sorry to disappoint you with that one. :-)

When baby is ready, you will know. :-)

Walking, eating spicy foods, nipple stimulation are all suppose to help. Good Luck and congrats.
