Conservatives absolutely use this scare tactic to gain votes. And unfortunately, it works.
The answer above mine is exactly why they win those votes. People are somehow convinced that if you aren't Conservative, you aren't religious. It's a shame, but the Democrats are partly to blame by not countering the lies earlier. I think they were too scared they would lose some moderates if they expressed their religiosity.
I also don't think it's a coincidence that the same people that favor a literal interpretation of the bible are the same people that favor of strict constructionism when it comes to the Constitution. I'm not sure if they quite grasp that society and life changes and so should our interpretation of doctrines.

But Sean, being liberal these days DOES mean disrespecting Christians. Do you not watch the news? What about the situation in New York schools, where it's "okay" to display the Jewish Menorah, the Muslim Star and Crescent, but don't you DARE try to show a Nativity scene!! Since the Menorah and the Star and Crescent are religious symbols, how is that NOT discrimination against Christians?
Read some of the vile comments so-called "tolerant" liberals use on here to talk about how stupid Christians are. Read the editorial pages and cartoons - they wouldn't DARE slam Islam the way they do Christianity and even Judaism.
I'm a non-practicing Christian. I don't go to church, but I have my own beliefs. This is my 3rd year working with almost entirely liberals - I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've head highly educated people spew hatred towards Christians.

I'm a liberal and Christian. I think that the last election proved that conservatives don't have a lock on the Christian vote. There are a lot of Christians who believe that global warming and stewardship of God's creation is a moral issue.

I hate to say this but most people who call themselves Christians are Christians in name only. Most have not read the Bible or cracked one open in years. They don't know what Christ came for or died for, so how could they not be offended by Jesus who said there is one way to heaven and that's by me, everyone else is going to hell. Many conservatives and liberals find this message to be distasteful and politically incorrect. How can an individual live a life polar to scripture and call themselves a Christian? Simple, their hypocrites and fools.....What if Jesus was telling the truth?

Hey its the liberals track record that goes against them. You don't hear conservatives complaining about too many religious symbols. You don't hear conservatives complaining about saying a prayer before a ball game or graduation requesting help in a safe outcome from what life throws you. It isn't conservatives who have distorted the founding fathers first amendment from saying freedom of religion into freedom from religion.
It's not a way to ensure votes. It's the way to ensure people know the difference between liberals and conservatives.

Why do conservatives ask questions which require the answerer to participate in broad generalizations like, "How can liberals be offended by Christ...?"
I am a liberal and I don't believe in Christ (at least not as the son of god). It is not logical to be offended by something I do not believe in, now is it? Who taught you to form questions? Let me guess...she wore a habit and slapped your wrist with a ruler?

I too am a liberal and I am not offended by Christ. I don't know any liberals that are offended by Christ. I think they confuse that because we are often offended when anyone of any faith attempts to force the practice o their faith on others.

the majority of Liberals are Christian. Announcing that liberals are against religion does help them get votes and voters. There are many people that join the Republican Party because they have it in their minds that the Republican Party is the Christian Party. It also helps Ann Coulter sell books.

I am not of a certian political party, in fact I can't stand either party.
Most people assume I am a liberal.
I personally am in no way offended by Christ. From what we know about him he is a great guy, who wanted to help everyone.
I am offended by Christians daily.

Not only that, it is more insidious than that.. They wish to convert all of us to their religion and then they squeal about the Islamist who want to do the exact same thing. I have no preference for any particular religion except love for my fellow humans. That is the best way to be instead of some faith based claptrap.
