What makes a good television show for you? Are you an action junky? A romant-a-holic? How about a comedy freak? When you start watching a show, how long does it take for you to get hooked on it?

I didn't start watching Lost until about 2/3's of the way through the first season. I downloaded the pilot and was immediately smitten with the show. It was just a great idea and the characters were completely believable and the actors are all great. My only concern, which I now know was unfounded, was that "where are they going to take this? They're lost on an island, what can they possibly do now?" But that was quickly answered and before I knew it I was downloading Lost like crazy.

It was very similar to 24. What a great show. I didn't start watching this until the 3rd season, or Day 3 as they call it. I downloaded the first few episodes as a friend told me it was a great show and that I should download the first few episodes before I start watching, because once I do I'd "have" to keep wa

It depends on the show, of course, but writing is usually the key for me to get hooked on a show right away. I was hooked on "Heroes" from the first episode because it ended with a really great twist that I didn't see coming.

On the other hand, I was an avid "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fan for 6 of the 7 years, but I didn't watch it until halfway into the first "season" (which was only half a season long) because the first few episodes weren't as interesting, and Joss Whedon hadn't really hit his stride with the characters, their relationships, and the way the dialogue fit with that. There were a couple of real "clunkers" in that first season's episodes, and so I didn't really get hooked into it until it was time for Buffy to face the Master. By that time, I cared about her, and her friends and her potential boyfriend, Angel, and I even cared about Mr. Giles, the stuffy librarian who was supposed to be taking care of her.

Often I won't start watching a show until after the first season has come out on DVD. That's a good time to watch all the episodes back to back and get a real feel for the show. That's how I got hooked on "Grey's Anatomy" and that's how I started watching "Six Feet Under," too.

Well I like comedy, police shows like CSI, and Hospital shows like Gray´s Anatomy
funny I started watching lost from the begining, and after 3 or 4 episodes I left it, then I saw the season finally of this year
I saw 24 from season 1 and loved it, but by 3rd season I lost interest

What keeps me watching a show is the writing/story line. I was hooked on The Gilmore Girls from the very first time my best friend asked me to watch it with her. She knew I'd like it because of the writing and the characters, and I did! It is still one of my favorite shows.
M*A*S*H* was like that, too. Great writing, great cast, and it didn't get stale, so it lasted a lot longer than most.
Intriguing and engaging characters, like in Gilmore Girls, and House, make for good television, too.

What hooks me on a show is an interesting dynamic character: Like the Uncle (by Neil Patrick Harris) on "How I Met Your Mother". The whipped divorced father, the drunk sex-crazed mother, and the son who is just like her on "Two and a Half Men". Then there is "House" that combines an interesting character with mystery. This combination is also why I love all of the CSI shows.

The fastest I ever got hooked on a show was 1 episode--that was Babylon 5, the episode "Parliament of Dreams." It was intelligent, philosophical, thoughtful, funny, bizarre and the characters were engaging without too much artificiality, despite the artificial setting of a fictitious space station with fictitious aliens. The themes were purely human and it took only one episode to show me I really had to see every one of them!

Suspense keeps me watching a show. I love lost and 24... but i love lost more.... people love watching other people in situtations they would never want to be in. Its exciting. I have noooo idea where they are going to go with that show.. and as much as it frustrates me to watch it because it just keeps getting more and more confusing.... i will continue to do so till the end!
