Not one hundred percent sure, but the reason for the collapse of the trial could have been caused by prejudicial reporting by the press.

Lets think of it this way. From the moment a person is arrested and charged with an offence they are under the protection of the courts. Any negative press coverage before and during a trial could be used by the defence as a reason for stopping the trial.

In my view, the press should learn to shut up and like the rest of us, wait for press releases from the court and trial.

The press and media in general often behave as though they were judge and jury. They want us to buy newspapers and will often go to extreme lengths to get our attention.

A free press has a vital role to play in a democracy but it should not prejudice a forthcoming trial by publishing lies about people.

The accused is innocent until having been proved guilty in a court of law.
