It doesn't 'hurt' in the popular sense of the word, its not painless though but I wouldn't say it hurts either, that geek who wrote the first comment about nasty diseases you can get from it, is talking bullshit, it will only get infected if unclean practices are used when piercing the ear and if you don't do any after care. Some people are so ignorant. Although, he does have a point it is far safer to pierce with a needle to avoid damaging the area around the piercing site. But to be honest for ear and cartilage piercing on the ear, the gun wont cause any lasting damage.

No No No NO. I've been through the horrible infection and shattered cartilidge thing. It was not fun. Months of agony and a swollen ear that looked like it was made of plasticine. Just because plenty of other people have jumped off the cliff and not hit the pointy rocks at the bottom, doesn't mean you'll be so lucky. Not worth the risk. Guns are unclean and totally unsuitable. The people using them untrained, also unclean and clueless. A shop window isn't a sterile field either. The jewellery is way too short, bad quality, and habours germs. And their aftercare is awful. Plus they get you with the FREE PIERCING! thing. But sell completely overpriced earrings, that are bad quality. Here you can get lobe piercings done properly, with a needle, for about £15. Claires its £20. The claires here have promised not to pierce cartilidge, as they realise it dangerous (but some still do). Needled piercings are less painful, just as quick and heal sooo much better. There is really no merit at all to having it gunned.

I had my cartilage pierced at Claires years ago and it was fine. However I have noticed that some people can't really get the piercing placed properly if their ear curves a lot. I guess the gun isn't big enough to reach over that curve. Not to mention most professional piercers are anti-gun... the gun shoves a stud through your ear, whereas the needles piercers use actually cut a hole. The cleaner the cut the faster the healing time.

I recommend not going to Claire's to get it done. The people that work there don't know where not to pierce it. The managers don't give them proper training on piercing ears. I got mine done there and it kept getting infected for over a year. I even had a gold earring in. If you still want to get it done at Claire's you pay for the earring which is about 25 dollars. It does hurt but its more like your ear is burning. The pain goes away after a couple of days.

I just got mine done a couple days ago and I have to say it didn't hurt getting it pierced it just hurts a little after. In my situation the piercer also tried to talk me out of getting both of my ears done but I am head strong and got them both done. it cost me $24.10 to get my done. I know I have heard horror stories of not being able to sleep on them but I found that I usually sleep on the edge of my pillow any way so I had no problem sleeping either. I would also like to add when I went in to get mine done I did see another piercer after words because the information the lady was giving me at Clair's was wrong. She told me to twist it and the professional piercer I usually go to said don't do that it will take longer to heal if you do that. The piercer then told me if the piercing ever got infected take it out of coarse I know from all my past piercings you never take out a infected piercing. I know they were really clean when I went in. I watched the lady wash her hands, put on some gloves, put disinfectant on the gloves, mark where the holes where going to go on my ears, take out the gun which was individually packaged, watched her sterilize that on top of it, then do my ears. She told me to clean my ears four times a day but my regular piercer told me only three times is needed. I would also like to add the only reason I went to Clair's is because my piercer was on vacation and for some odd reason no one could tell me when she would come back. My piercer said that I would be fine as long as I keep the piercing clean and don't mess with it.

Yes it hurt a little..I had mine done there. It also took a long time to heal and when you take out the earring..be careful because if it's too early the earring wont go back in.
It was FREE but you had to buy the earrings.
Also,do not use rubbing alcohol on it! They will tell you not to.I used neosporin.
The people at Claire's did a good job and they do hundreds of piercings. They are clean too.
Just be careful and take care of your ear...and dont sleep on that side of your head..it will hurt a bit for a while.
Go for it:)

Don't get it done at Claire's, and don't get it done with a gun. Go to a professional piercer - they are trained to pierce (as opposed to trained to sell earrings and barrets) and it's much, much more sanitary. There is no way to put a plastic piercing gun in an autoclave, and you have no idea how many times it's been used. I had my cartilage pierced several times - once with a gun and 3 times by a pro. The one pierced with a gun hurt and got infected - I couldn't sleep on that side for weeks. The ones I got pierced by a pro went smoothly, didn't hurt nearly as bad, quit hurting all together after 2 days, and never got infected. I will never again tell anyone it's ok to get pierced by a plastic gun.

i wouldn't recommend going to claire's.
piercing guns aren't the best thing to get pierced with. go to an actual piercing parlor to get it pierced, because they'll actually know what they're doing and you have the assurance that it's safe and sanitary, depending on the place.
usually the price isn't all that high, but i've seen some ear piercings go up to $60 or $70.
just go to a place where you feel comfortable and has a price that you're willing to pay for. look around a bit for a good place and just ask for prices and ask if they sterilize all of their equipment, just to be sure.
