If you find that you don't like IE7 and want IE6 back, there's a Microsoft support page with detailed instructions on how to uninstall IE7, this will leave you with IE6:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/supp...
To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 to return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP
1. Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel."
2. Click "Add or Remove Programs."
3. Check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box.
4. Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 7 that you are running, and then click "Change/Remove." (If you are running Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview — March 20 or later, it is not necessary to check "Show Updates.")
Although your problem sounds like a browser hijacking, Internet Explorer doesn't help prevent things like this, none of the versions, they're all insecure no matter how many patches come out.
Try using these two pieces of software to fix the browser hijack:
SUPERAntiSpyware

Ad-Aware SE Personal

IE6 is going to out of date quickly. i do no longer think of you will get 3 IE interior the comparable gadget except you have a digital gadget that a lot IE6 and then your quite gadget set up IE8. in this type, you will gain 3 IE interior the comparable gadget as IE8 have been given an emulate button that could emulate IE7. consistent with possibility IE8 grant greater added useful properties like browser fix and addtional context menu etc. All I want continues to be IE7, nonetheless I already improve to IE8 as there is the emulate useful properties.

Sounds like you got some extra unwanted goodies with the download. Run the scan below to clean it up.
Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from Trendmicro. When I have tested it it takes some time to run it but it may be time well spent if it can fix any problems.
Download and run http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
After you get it clean run Cleanup and a registry cleaner.
Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048
Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.
Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/

If you download it from any site other than Microsoft you could have a Smitfraud Trojan installed with it. Smitfraud are the Trojans that usually send you to the security sites. Uninstalling IE7 will leave the Smitfraud on your computer.
To to either one or both of these site (if needed) for a Smitfraud removal program and procedure.

It sounds like it isn't a problem with internet explorer. It sounds like you have gotten some spyware or adware. You need to get or if you have a spyware sweeper you need to run it to get rid of the spyware/adware.
