I don't know enough about him.

I do know there was some recent controversy, accusing Sinclair of defending Sacco and Vanzetti in print although he knew (or, at the least, firmly believed) they were guilty.

Yes, he was.

He tried to make Americans understand the problems of the working man. And his book also led to safer food for Americans.
