First thing to check would be your clutch fluid, though many newer cars tap into the brake fluid reservoir. Next would depend on whether it's an all the time problem or worse when the car is cold (esp. in cold weather). If it's mostly when the car is cold it may mean you need to replace the transaxle fluid as well as check for leaks. If it's all the time it's most likely a worn shifter linkage.

If it's a worn clutch or linkages/bushings double pumping the clutch will often help you get it into gear easier.

This is usually the first sign of a worn out clutch. It is time to replace it.
