I have a 1998 NEC computer that doesn't have a CD rom. I had my brother try and transfer files from this computer to our new one. He tried using several things, including a memory stick, IPOD, transferring files onto a disk, and then something used for transferring files...all to no avail. The old computer didn't recognize any of these things. Do you have any ideas on how to transfer a Word file from our old computer to our new?

We've tried transferring from a floppy, but our new computer doesn't take them.

Also, we tried hooking up both computers, but our old computer didn't recognize that software.

Try a floppy disk. You could also hook up the old hard drive into the new computer and transfer the files that way.

The computer didn't even recognize a disk? It sounds like there's something actually wrong with the computer.

But, if the computer actually works, and it's connected to the Internet (or can be), a last resort would be to upload your important files to your Yahoo briefcase

That would then enable you to access them from any computer online.

Yes, remove the hard drive and set it as slave then hook it to the new computer then copy what you want from it to the new drive.
