I hear you! I find that just taking a minute to stop and appreciate Christmas decorations in town, like the big Christmas tree in Union Square in San Francisco, then I can breathe and take in what this holiday season really means - family, friends, love.
Also, do something good for your community. My boyfriend and I are volunteering early (8 AM!) on Christmas morning at the San Francisco Glide Church to make sandwiches that will be passed out the homeless later that day. We are doing something to give back to the people, but I know we will also feel good too = more Christmas spirit. :) Take care.

The Christmas Spirit that gets into me is usually a blend of Amaretto and Cognac.
It usually hits me about Jan 8. The spirit was always there, it just took that long to overcome the numbness of over comercialization of Christmas that started right after Halloween and begain to peak on Thanksgiving.

I think the season is filled with stress because we put our focus all the places it shouldn't be. I'm not talking about religious or anything. I just mean, think about the two or three things that you have always really loved about the holiday -- whether that listening to Christmas carols, making cookies, watching old videos, or whatever -- and then give yourself permission to make that the focus of the last few days leading up to the holiday. It will brighten your spirits to get in touch with whatever you love.

I felt the same way for a couple of years. I had a daughter which gave me the Christmas spirit right back. I also like to call loved ones or people i haven't talked to in a while.

To put things into perspective go to the children's ward of your local hospital and look and speak with some of the terminally ill children. It will not only change your life, the children will like your visit and it will let you realize the great gift and blessings you have on this Christmas. It made all the difference in the world to me. Bring them some Christmas presents too.

This season is stressful, and frankly I am ready for it to be over! It's been drilled in my head since Halloween. I am tired!
Ways to attempt to get into the spirit...
make some mulled wine or hot cider and enjoy in front of your tree with candles lit and Christmas carols playing
Go Caroling in yiour neighborhood

Don't let all the commercialization get to you! The crowds, the stores, the traffic, the rush, rush, rush to get things done. It will get done!
Instead, play some music that you love, think of those fun days and how you can make that work today for you. Enjoy your friends and family and allow the true feeling of Christmas in.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Go to your local mall and pick something off the local Angel Tree. People in need have their wishes on them. You buy the gift and turn it in. If there isn't something like that, I'm sure there is a "Toys for Tots" drive somewhere close by. I find that by giving to someone I don't know, it helps keep that spirit in me.
