I have a relatively new computer (not even 2 years old) and usually when i start it up it has first always made a louder humming sound, then yesterday I turned it on and that humming noise didn't go away, I tried starting and restarting it multiple times, moving it off the desk (maybe it was vibrating the desk) to the floor, I left it off all night, turned it on this morning and still same noise going on, I opened up the side panel check out the fans inside, it doesn't sound like it is coming from the fans but from the processor or mother board. It basically is the sound the computer makes when it first loads up and it just won't stop, My computer is working fine though. And this noise is driving me insane... Any info would be great.. thanks..

Last time both my machines got so loud I couldn't stand it any more, I bought a can of compressed air to clean out all the fans (on the case, the power supply, the video card, etc.). I was pretty skeptical, but it actually made quite a large difference. In any case, it is a pretty cheap and safe thing to try, and isn't a bad idea no matter what. Worst case you have a clearner loud machine heh Good luck!

check the fans for any dust or a blockage.
try blowing sharply into the fans..

look for a small black cylinder on the board. It has a hole in the middle and is about 10mm wide and thick. It is a speaker. Switch the PC on and cover the tiny hole. If the sound changes something is causing the speaker to sound. This usually indicates a problem with the BIOS.

It sounds like your fan or your hard drive.

You might need to blow out the dust inside.

My computer is also brand new, and it also made vibrating noises.

I found that merely tapping on the side of the computer made the noise stop.

So, it could be something inside that's loose.

Noises are usually made by moving parts. You say it doesn't sound like the fan, but you can check it by using your finger to stop the fan and see if the noise continues.

It might just be a cheap old cooling fan. They cost less than 10 bucks and when they get old, they can howl like a banshee.

Take the side off and you should be able to pinpoint it quickly.

9 times out of 10 there's a cd-rom in the "d" drive that's spinning making that noise.

Take the CD out.
