First off, let me say in my wife's defense that she never buys clothes and she is very good with money. We have plenty of money to spend on clothes, but I am just wonder if she spent too much on clothes that she will wear only for 9 months.

My wife bought $200 worth of used and new maternity clothes. She bought so many shirts, pants, skirts and tank tops that they cover the entire bed. She said all she needs to buy now are bras.

Did she spend too much on all her clothes? Did I get off cheap? Her reason for spending $200 was that she works so she can't wear sweats all day unless she quits her job.

You should kiss her feet! If she bought that many clothes for only 200 you got off great. Many women will spend over 1000, during their pregnancy in maternity clothes. She is not just going to wear them for nine months either. She'll need some of them after the baby to help her transition back into regular clothes.

You should go check out a maternity shop and you'll see just how good you did. Most clothes in there, at regular price, are about 30 for one shirt, and 45-60 for a pair of pants. Also, dresses are close to 80, on the cheap end. So if she got as much as you say for only 200 she's a good shopper.

Umm, why are you acting like a jerk? For one, maternity clothes are expensive! For two, she is working too ya know, why cant she? That was NOT much at all! I have spent about 500 now and will probably spend more before it's over! It's a beautiful time, but it's also a really hard time on a women. She should have special clothes to make her feel as special as those 9 months are! If you were my husband and complaining about it, I would have left you already! Think of everything she will endure and the pain she will feel? Doesn't she deserve something? I bet you don't blink spending money on football tickets, golf clubs or video games (whatever dumb male interest you have). You got off cheap, don't be a jerk!

Think of it this way: Your wife is basically purchasing a whole new wardrobe for the next 9 months (or however long until she delivers). I think $200 if probably pretty decent since she works and has to have nice clothes to wear. The only maternity clothes I bought were a couple pairs of jeans, some nice shirts, and the rest were work clothes. I didn't buy any second-hand and spent close to $300.

The good news is as long as you're planning on having more children, she can resuse all these clothes later on. Make sure she stores them in a plastic airtight tub away from moths and mice to insure that they stay wearable.

Let her splurge a little every know and then - she deserves it!

Congrats and good luck!

That's not bad at all! When all your normal clothes start to not fit it gets a little depressing. So for her to have the maternity clothes to turn to is a good thing. She may only wear them for 9 months, but what if she decides to have another child, I'm sure she'd wear all the same stuff for that child too. She does have to wear this for 9 months so she doesn't want to wear the same 2 or 3 shirts and pants over and over again. I probably spent more than that on clothes, but when you're pregnant you wanna be comfortable and cute and sweats are not cute! Congrats and Good Luck!

id say no she didnt spend too much. I havent bought maternity clothes in 9 years but i know they are even more expensive than regular clothes. If she has to work, she does need a good variety too, so actually if she has that many clothes that they are covering your entire bed and she only spent 200...then you got off cheap! Congratulations on your new edition :)

You got off really cheap if that is all she spent. I am on Pregnancy number three and I have bought over $400 for maternity clothes with each pregnancy and that was at the less expensive stores and I didn't go crazy I bought what I needed so that I didn't wear the same thing all the time.

You must have a really huge bed if she shopped right you can get alot of clothes for $200 . Unfortunately what I'm understanding is that she bought alot of new clothes which could have been avoided unless you plan on having more children in the future. The second hand stores are the best stores to shop at when your pregnant.

$200 is not much.

It looks like she may have found a good place with clothes under the $20 though because it seems she got a lot of clothes. Congrats, you must have married a bargain shopper!

If you think about it IF she got the clothes for about $20 each that's only 10 articles of clothing and unfortunately most articles of clothing costs more than $20.

No she did not spend too much for clothes, as a matter of fact she didn't spend enough. Every day her stomach is going to get bigger and she will have to CONSTANTLY buy more and more clothes. That's just something you'll have to get used to! Now what is she going to do with the clothes after she has the baby is another question all in itself. Just let her buy as much as she wants because either way she'll have to keep buying the bigger she gets.

She did an excellent job at being thrifty! $200.00 for the entire pregnancy is great. Also, she's right. It's very hard to wear regular clothes while you are pregnant at work. You should be happy she opted for some used and some new. My aunt spent over $850.00 on all new clothes! Your wife deserves to feel good about herself while she is pregnant, trust me you'll reap the benefits as much as she will. She'll feel better about herself which will give her a more positive outlook during this time in her life.
