I think there is a huge double standard in today's society. On the one hand, the public seems to love the bathing suit competition and seeing these women parade around in their skimpy outfits and ballgowns slit to the waist both from top and bottom. On the other hand, they believe Miss USA and Miss America need to be role models for tomorrow's adults. Beauty and figure seems to be the most important feature of the contestants, obviously, or they never would have chosen the current Miss USA. She stammers and seems unable to utter a coherent sentence. However,....if she will use her position to talk to young people to convince them not to waste their time and energy on drinking and drugs, and unusual sexual practices...if she can keep the moral high ground for the rest of her term, she could still do some good. I tend to think the runner up would have been the better choice, but I really don't know the girls that well, so shouldn't judge them. I think the program needs to be updated, and have the girls do more academic contesting and more talent competition. This would be a more accurate view of the girls' all around appeal....not just their sex appeal. But then, that's just my opinion.

What's funny is that you see them paraded on stage in a near state of nudity (bathing suit competition) Now she's being judged for getting drunk and doing drugs. Are you serious? What standard are people worried that she's not living up to?

Pageants in this day and age are ridiculous. Whatever scandals become attached to them are unimportant in the greater scope of life.
