I have a relatively new computer (not even 2 years old) and usually when i start it up it has first always made a louder humming sound, then yesterday I turned it on and that humming noise didn't go away, I tried starting and restarting it multiple times, moving it off the desk (maybe it was vibrating the desk) to the floor, I left it off all night, turned it on this morning and still same noise going on, I opened up the side panel check out the fans inside, it doesn't sound like it is coming from the fans but from the processor or mother board. It basically is the sound the computer makes when it first loads up and it just won't stop, My computer is working fine though. And this noise is driving me insane... Any info would be great.. thanks..

Check the fan on the video graphics card. Mine is humming right now. My new fan should arrive in the mail today. It is safe to stop the fan with something before you turn it on to see if that is whats causing it. Just don't leave it on too long with a stopped fan.

You said this noise starts from when you first start the system. You opened it up so you must be fairly comforatble around computers. Check the processor fan. Is there a power cable hitting it? How about the cd or dvd drives? What you can do for a quick test is to disconnect the power to the cpu fan and boot the system. If it goes away then there is the problem. If not then it is somethine else. DO NOT RUN the computer without the cpu fan. You can to just test it before the computer loads and then turn it off. Good Luck.

Check the fan on the processor while the computer is on. If the noise is from that then get a new heatsink/fan for the CPU. Get a small tube of "Arctic Silver" thermal grease when you order your CPU fan. Use a BB sized amount on the top of your clean CPU before you install the new heatsink/fan.

Most likely it's the heat sink fan. 9 times out of ten, when your computer makes that louder humming like the computer is working overtime and it does not stop, the problem is overheating which means the heat sink fan/heat sink needs attention.

It sounds like your computer is getting hot enough and your fan is going at full speed. This usually happens when there is a lot of dust build up. You may try carefully opening it up and seeing how much dust is on the fans or on the grills around the fan. Or in the opening in the back of your computer. I have to clean mine out every once and a while and it makes it so much quieter. If your room is warmer it will just take longer for the computer to cool down. Make sure there is room for the cool air to enter the computer tower and room for the air to exit.

LIsten at the back of the case for the noise. This is a common problem also in power supply fans. The bearing races go bad.
