I'm using a small electric dewalt paint sprayer that uses the plastic cup that screws into the spray gun. I want to spray the paint on an old riding mower instead of rolling it. Just to make it smoother.

Read The Label! Doesn't acetone attack plastic? Check owners manual for sprayer.

3 to 1part acetone I use Rustoleum all day everyday and acetone is the best to use when thinning this paint, it will not hurt plastic paint gun parts...ever! Good luck!

Normally you would use different tints to lighten a color. Like Titanium white or another tint. A paint store should be able to tint the paint for you. You could try it yourself but make sure both paints are identical in type and base formula. Also mix thoroughly to maintain color consistency

as a professional painter of industrial steel I find it's best for a DIY to purchase what is called a viscosity cup. it let's you know how thin the paint can be to atomize the paint particles in order to recieve a good quality spray pattern

I believe acetone will curdle your paint, just as laquer thinner will. Rustoleum should be thinned with paint thinner, mineral spirits or naptha, probably 1 pint. to the gallon, max.
