I'm thinking of changing from a monthly contract to a Pay As You Go (PAYG) as I don't use the phone much, but I want to keep the international access. Someone told me that PAYG doesn't allow you to use your phone abroad - is this true? I wouldn't make many calls but would want to be able to ring England if I needed.

You can use any PAYG network abroad. However it is very expensive. Also, before going abroad I would call the network to make sure international roaming is active on your accout, if not you would not be able to make calls. This can easily be activated by the network provider

The thing about UK pay as you go contracts is when you phone, you get whacked, and beleive it or not when people phone you you get whacked too! Cheapest way to do it is to buy a sim card whilst abroad and text your most common contacts with the temporary sim card number - most resorts will have millions of places you can do this and it will cost considerably less....

go to the link below - using your handset abroad is about half way down the page

As long as you inform your mobile service provider that you require to use your phone abroad it isn't a problem. When you say abroad are you saying on the continent? If you mean outside the continent, say USA, your phone needs to be the right band.

I am in America and have both o2 UK and Virgin Mobile UK PAYG accounts. Both work here, I would think Orange, T-Mobile and Vodaphone would also be OK
Cheers

I'm on Vodaphone (PAYG) and used it in Germany a couple of years back. Cost a bloody fortune, though!
