I would suggest you read Guns, Germs and Steel.

I think you would really like it! I certainly did and it explores the affect of these things on how society has evolved.

These are not functioning items. It is the person wielding the items that caused the damage. Man has done the most damage to man. There are different tools that he used to do it.

Guns. It killed millions in the wars. Worst if the one holding the gun consumed alcohol,maybe he will shoot himself as well.

guns hurt more, but you need to have good aim to do damage.
alcohol, it depends on the drinks, some people can be abusive and there's no stopping.

hmm...i would have say they are both just as bad as each other, its just that one take longer to kill than the other.
