I bought some expensive wide fit long leather boots last year and I can't zip them up this winter. I've always had large calves but would really like to make an effort to slim them down and make them more shapely. Any ideas for exercises anyone?

I am dieting and the upper half of my body is relatively slim but I don't do much exercise at the moment, just a bit of walking.

All of the above are good exercises but this really works the best. I know I have heavy calfs too and work hard to slim them. You can clearly cut inches off your calfs without diet and the right exercise. Here it is:

Stand on the edge of a stair (not too high now). Make sure half of your feet hang off the end. Hold on and lower your heel down as far as you can and then bring it up as high as you can. All the while your toes and front protion of the foot never moves. Just go up and down in sets. Try 10 repetitions times 3 sets to start. Do this at least twice a day and more if you can handle it. After the first week go to 20 reps times 2 sets. Keep increasing the reps per week. Do as much as you can stand. But remember if you start out slow you wont be discourage when you get sore. Your legs will get real sore the first week or so. As they slim down you can continue with these exercises three times a week to keep them toned.
You will be amazed at the inches you will lose off your calfs. Those boots will fit in no time.
You'll be lookin good.

You can't really just slim down your calves. If it was your butt it'd be different. Basically do ALOT of cardio. That is 40-45 minutes of steady intensisty work out. So like 45 minutes on the treadmill at a speed of 5. Don't speed up or slow down. I personally think treadmills are boring so I would go to an aerobics class or dance class. Also yoga and pilates will help you a bunch. If your calves are all fat weight training combined with all of the above could tone up your calves by burning away all the fat and just leaving the muscle. However if they're muscle you can skip the weight training part. You WILL NOT bulk up trust me, I make over peoples bodies for a living.

If you wear heals as tall as you can stand to wear for around 2 weeks, it really helps, one of my friends had the same problem. This way you can slim them down doing your daily activites.

Low card diet, they say reduces muscle mass. I have large caves also. My doctor said it was because I have leg spasms because of my MS he put me on baclofen. Make sure you're healthy.

if u think u have fat on ur legs, riding ur bike, running, doing krunches(good for ur abs too), and six inches are good excersises. but remeber these are all designed to make muscle on ur legs. if u already have muscle then dont try these things, if u think its fat then give them a try.
hope that helps :-)
