Testing for recurrent pregnancy loss might be recommended if you'd had two miscarriages but didn't know what caused them -- your doctor would want to run certain bloodwork to see if s/he could identify a possible cause for your losses. However, you do know what caused them, and they were caused by different things. The chromosomal anomaly was just that, presumably -- an anomaly -- and unless there's reason to believe it's indicative of an chromosomal issue that would recur in the future there's no reason to worry about that happening again. However, depending on what the chromosomal issue was, it's possible your doctor would want to karyotype you and your partner/husband -- that would check each of you for certain chromosomal abnormalities that could become an issue with fertility. Regarding your incompetent cervix, your doctor will likely recommend a cerclage (a stitch that will help keep your cervix closed), and you may also find yourself on bedrest as any future pregnancy progresses. Many women who have been diagnosed with an incompetent cervix go on to have healthy children -- your pregnancy will be considered high risk, and you will be at greater risk for things like preterm labor, but fortunately you know about this problem and it can be addressed.

I am so sorry for your losses.

This varies from doctor to doctor. I had five miscarriages and never was referred for any testing by my OB/GYN.

If you have an incompetent cervix, you may need to have a stitch put in when you become pregnant as mentioned before. Your doctor may also monitor your progesterone levels during pregnancy and/or you may be placed on bedrest.

Most miscarriages are caused by chromosonal issues and they cannot be prevented. An incompetent cervix won't prevent you from having a full term pregnancy if the proper precautions are taken. Now that they are aware of the problem, it can be dealt with. As soon as you find out you are pregnant, see your OB/GYN right away so they can check progesterone levels and decide how to manage the cervix.

It's quite normal to feel as if something is wrong with you, but it isn't your fault. I know this is of no comfort, but you do still have many childbearing years left.

Don't give up hope. Regardless of my five miscarriages, I have four wonderful, healthy children.

Good luck to you!

well first of off I am sorry for you because I know you must be in pain. but now that the doctors know that you lost the babies because of an incompetent cervix they can schedule you for a procedure that they sew up your cervix until you are due a lot of women have had this procedure, but you do need to take it easy. there are no tests to tell if you will have a future miscarriage, it would be great if they could, but now you know. discuss this with your doctor and if he doesn't want to perform the procedure then you need to find another doctor. I wish you all the luck and a happy healthy pregnancy in the future. look on the bright side at least you know you can get pregnant. And you are gonna love your baby so much. When they don't come so easy it makes you stop and appreciate them all the more. God Bless you and I hope you get a Christmas present this year!

the chromosal problem is usually just a fluke of nature. I know this because at 24 I lost my daughter at 22 wks due to a chromosomal abnormality. I had and amnio done with her and then in 06 I got pregnant again and my dr did another amnio with that pregnancy to make the sure that all was ok. and it was. definetly talk to your dr before becoming prego again so that you know what to look out for and are prepared for any special circumstances of your pregnancy.

Sorry for your loss and good luck on any future babies!

Well I am not sure but I am sure that they will test for chromosomal problems ( If you can afford it and your insurance covers it) They will also tie your cervix so that it will make sure to keep your cervix closed so you will have a normal pregnancy. I would make sure they try that.... you need to suggest that I would also say that you might want to see a specialist. I had 3 miscarriages and on my 4th I had a normal pregnancy ( I delivered 5 weeks early but baby was ok)

I think you need to just talk with him and tell him your fears and make sure he does hormonal tests and they need to talk about doing that to your cervix to make sure it keeps closed.

Usually if its genetic like this its considered an inability to carry a child to term.

He may check you and the fathers rH factors if this hasnt been done already.

You may need stiches in your cervix if its incomplete, in order to carry a pregnancy to term.

You really just need to ask your doctor.
