Message to all the answers above that are so indignant in their response with an Absolute no, never, nukes are bad.
Nukes will be use in the 21st century Period. Don't be surprised if one of those Nukes is fired off by the USA.
Wake up from your PC worlds and look around the globe, people are fighting and dying on almost every continent on the planet. Sooner are later it will come back to all of the western countries if left on checked.
All the peace loving appeasers of the world need to recognize that in the face of enemy's their way of thinking only leads to bigger wars later on.
The ask-er of this question is right in that we should not continue to put fails hopes in failed diplomacy. Instead, we should demonstrate the cost of being an enemy to the USA by using preventive military strikes to disable all rogue nations nuclear programs. But I would suggest conventional not nuclear strikes.

Not going to do it. Do you realize they global ramifications if the US did that? The US is already thinking about putting another aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf as a "show of force" to Iran.
We need to let other countries govern their people any way they choose and keep our noses out of their affairs. If we did, we wouldn't be in this current mess in Iraq.
