i own an Asus P4P800-X motherboard, with a Celeron D at 512 FSB speed.currently running with ddr333, but thinking of using ddr400 soon. but according to the mobo's manual, ddr400 only can run in FSB 800's processors (such as P4 with HT,etc...). Any guide? wut would happend if i stil want to use the ddr400, will i burn the processor?

Provided you buy the right type of memory (so it physically fits in your motherboard) it should work fine.

The DDR333/400 rating simply tells you the maximum frequency that stick of memory is designed to work at. If you put DDR400 memory in a DDR333 system it will work fine, just at a slightly lower speed than is was designed to.

If you are increasing the amount of memory in your system go ahead but don't expect any performance increase the memory is all you are changing.

Good luck!

No, just put it in there, the benefit will be minimal though.

If there is a memory error you will hear a load of beeping when you turn the PC on, just take it out and whip the old stuff back in.

Check for a MB BIOS update first though as new features are always added later :-)

As mentioned eariler, the benefit is minimal.

A lot of motherboards offer aynchronous clocking meaning the memory and processor run at a different FSB.

Check with your motherboard manufacturer's website regarding the compatability of the memory with your motherboard.

Faster memory will usually run at slower speeds aswel so as long as the memory is compatible, you should be ok to use DDR400. It will just run at the slower speed.

i am using the same mobo with a p4 2.8 cpu with same fsb it will eun on ddr 400 with no problems at all, simply replace your 333 cards with ddr 400 ones, it should speed your pc up a little as the access speed is slightly faster, i am planning to replace my cpu with a ht one as well
