So if someone you know well calls and asks you to pick up a lucky dip on the lotto for them(its nearly half 7 and they are not near a shop)...and you pick one up for yourself aswell....when you get home the one you bought for them wins - do you tell them and hand over the ticket...or pretend that was your one and claim the cash for yourself??

Personally I think I would have to tell them (if I know them very well that is) coz i'd feel so guilty and maybe they will reward me anyway coz im the one who bought it.

Moral dilemma or done deal??

I'd say it was mine but split it

Well I wouldn't have bought a ticket for myself, but if I had I probs would say "This is yours, but since I didn't decieve you I would be glad if you share your money with me, doesn't have to be 50% £1 is good enough for me" (£1 to get back the lottery ticket money I spend on myself)

I have done this - not for a massive amount of money, maybe a hundred quid prize.
Two tickets - one wins - give your friend the choice - pick one at random, or split the prize?. (we split the money)
For millions? How many millions can you spend in one lifetime? - share it.
Legally, the contract is between you and the lottery, not her.

That is really tough...Who wouldn't want to keep it? But I would feel really guilty and would not want to have money on those contexts so I would fess up and hope that maybe I would at least get some sort of cut for picking it up for them and being a really honest friend...lol....

If you bought both tickets at the same time, then claim the winner and split the proceeds with your friend.

If you bought yours for you, then bought hers for hers and you know which one is which, then give her the ticket.

Your mistake was looking up her winning number. You should have just given her the ticket without looking it up.

The amount of the ticket would definately be what made my decision this. But most likely, I would just tell them that I purchased both, unsure of which belonged to who, and one won, so I'd split with them.

I think splitting the money would be the fair thing to do, if they didn't want to you would definately know how strongly they felt your friendship was. I would want to share my good fortune with a friend and both being winners would be better than both being losers in court with the lawyers getting most of it.

Would never have this dilemma since I would not purchase a lotto ticket for myself or anyone else.

I would just give the right ticket to the right then ask them for money, after all you did get their lottery ticket! He! He! He!
