This will date me, but I would pick Joni Mitchell. Back in the early 70's I totally related to her album "Court & Spark". Very introspecitive lyrics. I highly recommend her work, especially for young women looking for music that's more meaningful than the impersonal sex obessed stuff that's out there these days.
