Why can't they just be honest and admit they can't be faithful and stop getting in exclusive relationships and/or getting married...?

Because society says we should be monogomus and get married, and the pressure to do so forces some people who do not feel monogomy is important to give it a shot. We are also told that if we love someone enough, we will be able to stay faithful, so we enter into loving relationships believing that to be true, and for awhile maybe it woks. But eventually the rrue nature of a person will come out, and if they are inclined to cheat they will.

I agree with you , but I some times think that we do not ask the right questions and get the partner to tell us what we need to know, There seems to be a great problem with asking any sort of commitment question, for fear of hearing some thing we are not going to like, If we are up front with our wants and needs there is no room for any one to get the idea that you are interested in a fling or short commitment, You may have to go through a lot of potential men but to get what you want and need, you got to know what they are thinking. Do not waste your time and efforts entertaining guys who are there just for a good time rather than a long time. Do YOUR HOMEWORK

Because they want to have their cake and eat it, too. They get all the benefits of having a "committed relationship" and get to have their fun on the side as well.

They should find someone like themselves who wants an open relationship!

They are not happy in these multiple short term empty relationships. They want more meaningful relationships but are not willing to pay the price of fidelity. So they spread the misery around.
