cz lighter colours have low volume and white is the lightest in colours thats why its more transparent. (even other lighter shades like sky blue, torquise, lemon yellow etc... are see through/transparent but less than white)

Its because its a lighter colour and darker colours especially show better through it. You may notice that pastel colours also have a high level of transparency. But white is more common and cheaper thinner cottons are more widely available.

good question, also they shrink in the dryer too. It's only white that looks that way though.

Well it depends on how they are made onetime i had a trasparent white shirt and one time i didnt!!!!
