What is the differnce between a marriage certificate and a marriage license? Im married only by our religion I have a marriage cerificate that confirms were married religiously but my husband doesnt want to marry me legally for some odd reason so whats the difference if i got a certificate or a license. I want to get one with out him knowing because for the simply fact that if anything were to happen to him (god forbid) but I would not have any say in anything. Also lets say were were to divorce would I get my children (dont have any yet but am planning on it) even though we dont have the same last name?

what matters is how much people are there for and care for each other

the kids will choose they like too , paper or not

the paper is there for dishonest people and money grabbers

You're going to have to find out definitively what your husband's problem is before you have any children.

A marriage license means that you have the state's permission to marry. A marriage certificate is the legally recognized proof that you are married. I'm a little confused that you could have the certificate before you had the license. Some states include both on the same piece of paper...

a Marriage License is a document that's issued by the court to allow you folks to get married. a Marriage Certificate is proof that you folks already got married & LEGALLY (not religiously). Your husband said he doesn't want to marry you legally? well, he's an idiot. He oviously doesn't know what a Marriage Certificate means either. Tell him IT'S TOO LATE, because that Marriage Certificate you have is proof that your both married to eachother LEGALLY and there's nothing he can do about it. Make sure you don't lose it, you will need that just in case he gets shot in the head or runned over by a bus. LOL.

Unfortunately for you, in this day and age, if you don't have a legal marriage license signed by the state, you're not married. A marriage certificate does nothing but show that you were married religously in a church, but not legally. You need both to be technically legal. It's kind of sad, but true.

First, you should find out exactly why your husband doesn't want to marry you legally. You won't be able to get a marriage license without his signature.
