Depends - according to what variable?

It is 2nd degree in x
1st degree in y
3rd degree in x and y

degree of the polynomial is the highest power of the variable in the polynomial

therefore
degree in x = 2
degree in y = 1

but since y is not present in all the terms the degree is 2 for x

the degr3ee is the number of the largest exponent, thus 2 in your case.

( i kmnow that some people will say 3 because ot the y in the first term. this is not correct. )
