I'm guessing it is not installing or starting? Likely you need to download and install GTK+ 2.4 first. There are links at the GIMP web page, and also I provided a URL for you.
GIMP really needs to make an all in one package for this.

first what operating sys are you using and how much memory do you have??
gimp is great does just about everything photoshop does BUT it is a resource hog and uses alot of memory and takes longer then photoshop to open and load but hey its free :-) email me if you want to ask me any Q's i have photoshop and have used gimp
