I still enjoy the saga, but I feel it is a pity JKR seemed to loose momentum after the first three. As the gap lengthened between the releases, it became harder to sustain the excitement and enthusiasm. I understand she had a bad case of writers block, and it shows, I think, in the Order of Phoenix. The books have become darker - she always said they would, and I appreciate the idea of Harry growing older with his readers and the content becoming more adult, but this has been at the expense of the charm of the earlier books, which benefited from the 'school yarn' appeal. OTP could have been subtitled 'Harry Potter and his teenage angst'!
But I think she recovered form with HBP, and all the pieces are now in place for the big showdown with you-know-who, so I am really looking forwards to the last one!

If a book is good, it never becomes "past it" Harry Potter is a classic, will be for decades, maybe longer.

What do you mean? Harry Potter is great. We are still waiting for the last book to come out. If you are wondering if they are too young for you, my parents still read them.

They will survive the test of time because they are children's fantasy novels. I think the first three are the best and that JKR has, at times, struggled with the others. I'm rather relieved that the final book is being written and hope that it's not too heavy for young hands to hold.
I'm not a fan of the writer herself though. She thinks she has the right to unduly criticise other excellent fantasy writers' work while not wanting to be described as such herself.

I think jk rowling should have stuck to writing a trilogy rather than to drag it to seven books. she seems to be running out of ideas. Harry Potter was interesting in the beginning but all i can see now is a teenage boy with a scar on his head who keeps loosing his temper.

Still good to read. Will still be good to read when you pass them on to your grandchildren, and they pass them on to their grandchildren.
The Harry Potter series is a publishing miracle: good books for young readers that do not condescend, and are not politically correct. Stories that blend lots of fact in with the fiction, so kids will be stimulated to research which is which. And most important, the series conveys the importance of certain virtues, such as courage, quick thinking, loyalty, and a sense of honor.
Rowling is one for the history books.

Of course they are still good to read! The Harry Potter books have joined the ranks of the "children's classics" like Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, The Narnia Chronicles, The Lord of the Rings... etc... and are excellent books to read, or to have read aloud to you. They, and others like them, will continue on, even when the movies made about them become stale...
Keep reading! Nothing else develops your imagination potential like reading.
