That would create a top and a bottom and an unknown thickness. If it was totally flat then there would have been no underground minerals or underground potable water. No fossil fuels, etc. Gravity would be totally messed up as the earth's spinning is what keeps our feet on the ground. We would probably be either crushed or float off. I don't think the earth would have survived with a flat shape. It would seems like the physics of it would have pulverized us. Our atmosphere would also be flat which would invite more things hitting our atmosphere and not bouncing off. This is actually a really good question - I think we need an astrophysicist for this one or Steven Hawking.

The laws of Physics would be fundamentially different. For the world to be flat, the rest of the universe would have to be. This would mean that protons and electrons would spin round the nucelus of an atom differently so we would look and behave very differently. And i'd like to add a 5 day weekend and 2 day week, if possible, while we're making these changes

I imagine that if the world were flat, it would be like the token machine at Chuck E. Cheese.. you put a token in, it falls & pushes other coins off the ledge.

i suppose it is possible, but it would still have to spin and assuming it spun flat then those living near the middle would be squiched a lot and those near the edges would risk floating into space if they jumped too high.
air travel would be a no no

I don't think we would have gravity if the Earth was flat, and without gravity we would be unable to live on the Earth.

Nice Idea - All the Aussies on the underside would just fall off!
(guess who's bitter about the Ashes?)

What, like living on an atlas as opposed to a spherical globe?
No, we'd be living on a prayer (ohhhh I'm halfway there)

Well I know one thing for sure, instead of spinning in space, we would be flying through the galaxies like a frisbee!

What do you mean "If the world was flat"?
It looks pretty flat to me.

Well, the ones that fall off the edge wouldn't be living!
