I am 6 weeks pregnant with my first child. I am in my mid 20's, married and my husband and I have wanted a child for years.

I am still jealous of pregnant women!

I get jealous when I hear about a woman younger than me getting pregnant or having more than one child. I get jealous when a woman is unmarried and gets pregnant. I get jealous when someone is farther along than me because they are past the high risk miscarriage months and I am not. And I get super jealous of women who actually just gave birth.

What the heck is going on with me?!!! Am I just hormonal? I thought I wouldn't be jealous when I actually got pregnant. Why am I jealous?

It's definitely hormones. Don't be so jealous. There are millions of women in the world who aren't able to have children and are jealous of women like you who can have children. You should be extremely happy that you have your own bundle of joy on the way.
I used to think that I couldn't have children because I tried for years, and I used to be jealous of every woman I saw that was pregnant or had kids. I'm now 7 months pregnant with my first little boy, and you know what, I'm not jealous anymore because I know that in just a few more weeks, I'll have my own little baby to love. Just be happy. Congrats and Good Luck.

You probably won't be able to help the feeling of jealousy completely, but you can help it all little. I recommend telling your husband that you feel unattractive and emotionally vulnerable about it. If he is smart, his response should be to reassure you that he still finds you attractive. Depending on how the pregnancy is making you feel physically, try having more sexual experiences with him. That can help your self esteem just having him give your body pleasurable attention. Another simple thing to do is to go out to eat at a nice restaurant. Go to a salon and get your hair done, find a nice dress, and put on some nice jewelry. He'll be impressed by how elegant a pregnant woman can be and be sure to let you know that. Most importantly though, know that (1) he loves you and does find you attractive, (2) this situation is only temporary, and (3) hormones are a pain in the butt. A final option is talking to your doctor about your problem. He may recommend Prozac, which is safe to use during pregnancy. The great benefit to this is that it can even out your emotions and squelch a bit of the paranoia you are feeling right now (it helped my wife ALOT). But definitely talk to your doctor before doing anything like that. Hope everything works out for you.

I was in a similar situation. My husband and I tried to get pregnant for a few years, with no luck. I was jealous of every pregnant women I saw because *she* was able to have kids.

Even after I got pregnant, and early on in my pregnancy, I was still jealous, as you are describing. Either the women were able to get pregnant at a younger age...or they were showing more than I was, or they were further alogn than myself, etc.
This went away. I believe that it was because even though you KNOW you are pregnant...you dont truely KNOW yet...it is not a reality to you fully yet. You are only 6 weeks along...your belly is not huge, no one can look at you and comment on how 'big you are getting' or ask how far along you are. you own husband cant even tell by just looking at you...and you probably cant tell by checking yourself out inteh mirror.

Trust me that once you get further along, and actually start showing, you will feel ALOT better and find yourself believeing and understanding that you are pregnant and that the other women do not matter anymore...you have nothign to be jealous about, because you have what you wanted and everything.

Its a weird feeling, and no everyone experiences it. Its not a bad thing, but it does tend to happen more to women who have tried for a long time to concieve or who have gone through medical procedures to get pregnant.

Dont worry abtou it right now. If the problem continues long itno your pregnancy, you can try talkign to a counsoler abotu it to try to gain control over those feelings. I never needed that...it went away on its own.

Also, I believe it is caused by hormones to a point, and it purely psychological.

I used to get jealous and sometimes even angry and hurt when I woudl see mothers mistreating their children and there I was TRYING to have children, and these mothers were actign like they wish they never had given birth! It made me mad that those women were able to have children when they didnt deserve them, and I wasnt pregnant yet!

So I feel your pain...hang in there...it will get better as your pregnancy continues.

Good luck, and congrats!!!

I think it's the hormones!
I sometimes feel jealous of women who are further along than me, so I know what you mean. Women who are a a few months further along than me I feel jealous of, while women who are about to give birth and are really big, I feel in awe of, which is silly because I will be there myself before I know it!
Sounds like you are just keen to have a baby, and have been for some time. Not long now though!

Major hormonal adjustments going on in your body.
Were you a jealous person before you got pregnant, maybe of other women?
Sounds like insecurity issues....it seems as if you want to be the only one prego right now and if anyone else experiences this with you, you're gonna throw a fit. You need to get over this.
Talk to a perfessional. Being jealous, creates stress and stress is not good on your pregnant body or the baby.

Normal. Women have a need to have babys. some feel it more then others. I am 34 weeks. VERY PREGNANT, but am jelouse of those who have new borns, and whos belly button pokes out. Becasue mine does not. It is just something you have to learn to put into a different prospective. Give it a while, and you will start to show. Bw sure to wear the cuttest shirts, and then other women will be all about touching your tummy. They will soon be jelouse of you. It is normal. I can't wait until I have my baby, but Until then I get to play with others. When you start to go to your monthly visits, ask other moms if you can see their new borns. It is great to see others babys. It is great prep for your own. Good luck and congrats. You will soon have a baby of your own to love.

Hmm.. Sounds hormonal to me! I kind of know how you feel, I'm 20 and 6 weeks and I'm jealous that three of my cousins are pregnant also! They are further along than me; I guess I feel they are taking attention away from me! Which sounds silly, because I think about it and I shouldn’t care!
