Make sure your on a hard, clean surface, like the kitchen floor or a big table. (Carpet makes it a little trickier to cut, and you risk fuzz in the tape.) Put everything you can in boxes so the wrapping won't be lumpy or weird shaped, and it's easier to wrap. Just cut out the amount you need. Extra paper makes your folds messier. Use clear gift tape, so it won't show up as much. Get plastic ribbons on a spool, and go around the box both ways, and tie a big bow at the knot or just curl the edges with a scissors edge. Tape on your gift tag (role tape on the back so it's not exposed), and put the corner of it by the knot from the ribbons. Get a sticky bow that matches the ribbon and put it over the ribbon knot. Ta-da!

First off Gift bags with pretty tissue paper I think looks great, makes people happy because they can reuse the bag again too.
But if you want to wrap:
Measure a bit to much and always fold the paper at the box sides and corners to give a nice crisp finished look, simply folding doesn't give it that clean look. You need to crease the paper to follow the box and make a sharp bend to the paper. Pretty paper makes pretty presents too.
Dressing up with ribbon around the box is a great idea and a present topper like a flower (Michael's or Joann fabrics has plastic sparkly Christmasy flowers cheap) or a small gift from the dollar store is a great final touch. For example if you are giving someone a kitchen gift buy a kitchen towel @ the dollar store and fold it in half or quarter and tie a ribbon in the middle to make it look like a flower or bow. Same with a hot pad or wooden spoons, measuring cups... same with bath stuff, use a puff ball for the bow. Hope it helps.

Lol, if you follow martha steward type advice, then you need to use a ruler and use it to sharply crease all the folds so they fold perfectly lol, then you buy some of that thick fancy christmas ribbon that matches the color of the paper and wrap it up in a bow although it takes time to get the bow perfect and each presents ribbon will cost about a dollar so it could add up. Also dont buy cutesy wrapping paper - buy ones with one or two colours maximum and nice patterned designs.

hurry - putting them under the tree before Christmas is customary lol

for real sharp use a wrapping service ( yes there are such things )

the quick and easy is to buy predecorated boxes seal the lid with a wrap of decorative tape around the seam then use a ribbon to decorate - cross the corners at a 45 degree angle then attach a large decorative bow and free hanging tag ( NEVER use stick ons ) very easy to do and looks much better than wrapping paper

I can't wrap very well myself, so I either have the store where I bought the gift wrap it, or I put it in a nice gift bag with nice foils and such wrapped around with ribbons and bows on top. Just as nice.

Good Luck Santa!

That's a waste of money. What has worked for me in the past is wrapping in multiple boxes, using old newspaper. NOW DON'T get pived just yet.

The final box containing the gift is holiday foil wrapped; complete with ribbon and bow.

Use plenty of tape, packing tape is the better, they really have to work at it.

Enjoy and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS

Use organza material for the bows. Use gold or white thick gift wrapping paper more than the regular red-green. Make gifts looks like big paper wrapped candies. Catch the ends on both sides and tie them with various colored ribbons.

I took too much time answering and got cancelled, so here is the short version.
Pick coordinating papers, wrap the present with one, cut wide bands of paper from the other, and tape it all the way around the present.
Make tucks[folds] in the paper, so it looks like a tuxedo shirt. The demo I saw used three tucks, and when the present is done, she took her fingers and ran them done each fold, to pick it up. Coordinate papers, ribbons, tie ons, and to/from tags.
When you put the two ends of paper around the pachage, fold the top piece over, it looks neater. Don't have too much paper at the ends, and make sure both ends look exactly the same, just trim the paper on both sides until you get it right.
Use a bone folder, you can buy them at a stationary store, to make your folds neat and crisp.
Use double stick tape.
Don't use flimsy boxes to put the present it, it bows and sags.
Fit the print of the paper to the size of the present, big present, big print.
Paper with small stipes look really cute, especially on the ends of a square package. Fold the ends to look like this:><, to meet in the center of the box.
Use fancy ribbon from the craft store, like the wired craft ribbon, they have pre -made bows at the craft store that you can copy, and I bought a how-to book on tying bows. Or use big soft satin ribbon like from the fabric store. Martha Stewart favors the latter, tied in a big floppy bow like you tie your shoes with.
Try Martha Stewart for more ideas, she is forever showing how to make or print paper and tie bows.
I made a butterfly out of ribbon one year, I made four loose coils of flat ribbon, 2 small and 2 larger, and secured each one. then I made a body out of glued together layers of folded ribbon, and attatched the coils like wings. Then I cut two strips of ribbon for the anttenae, using the natural curl of the ribbon to my advantage. It was a hit at the work gift exchange. And do not be stingy with ribbon a big bow works for smaller, and larger packages.

Hope something here helps.

I think that presents with big beautiful bows are really nice. Not the bows you get in a bag, but the bows you make with ribbon that comes on a roll. Here's a link to the instructions for making several types of bows. http://www.save-on-crafts.com/howtomakebows.html

Also, adding pieces from artificial flowers like the poinsettia, or faux pine needles and pine cones would be a nice touch. Here are some ideas for making gift tags to go along with your pretty packages.

If you're on a budget like I am you can usually find everything you need in your local dollar store.Good luck and have fun with it, just use your imagination!

a pretty present starts with pretty paper. make sure you have lots of bows and ribbons. i find that they look better when i use about 4 ft of tape. the tape helps hold the paper in place while you are trying to fold and place another piece. also the correct amount of paper is crucial. if you do not have enough then you have to start patchwork, then get irritated when that looks like crap and start over again. this is bad. now you are pissed and would like to throw it in a trash bag and give that way. if you have too much then one area gets wrinkled while you are working on another area and although you pull it tight you can still see where the wrinkles were.

all in all i think the answer is tons of tape :)
