Today is my offical 6 wk cut off time and I was supposed to have a dr's appt today to get my iud put in, but my dr cancelled his appts for today. (and they don't know when they can reschedule.) It's been six months since my husband and I have done anything and I'm so ready! What can I do about birth control (condoms aren't an option) Does the pill work the same day?

No, the pill won't be effective for a while. Your only other option is a spermicide--jelly, foam, or vaginal contraceptive film. All can be purchased at any drugstore or wal-mart. Congrats on the new baby and have a great night!

No the only form of birth control that is effective on that day of administration are the IUD's. I would stick to it and go ahead and reschedule or contact another Dr

No, most hormonal methods of birth control take 7 days to work. If you can't use a condom try conceptol, and over the couter jelly you put in with an applicator. This will also help with the dryness you may experience after childbirth. They also sell contraceptive sponges. Full feeling. These are not good for long term usage however and he may want to pull out, just to be safe, especially if you are not breastfeeding your baby.
