Camping Zeeburg is pretty cool, if your not into camping there are loads of Hostels, where you'll meet like minded souls.

I went to Amsterdam and let me recommend one thing -- don't do the camping thing! I camped around Europe (btw - camping is a really cheap alternative to hosteling). Anyway, the sites in Amsterdam were really sketchy. Everyone was very drugges out and creepy. Plus, the sites were FILTHY! Based on that experience, I would recommend hosteling either. What we ended up doing was renting an apartment for one week. I only cost about $300 for the week and was a much better bet. I found it upon arrival, so I don't know how to book from US, but let me recommend LONELY PLANET travel guides. They offer great, budget friendly advice.
