Awhile back, I got a call about donating to the State Troopers. I was like "fine, that's a good cause" so I agreed to donate to them. After that, it seems I started a chain-reaction because I've been getting bombarded with calls from every organization under the sun. First it was the State Troopers, then it the Chiefs of Police, then the Deputies, then the Disabled Officers, then the Fire Fighters, then the Retired Veterans, then the Disabled Veterans, etc etc etc... I can't remember the names of all of them, but they all have something to do with Police, Firemen, or Veterans. I can understand these are worthwhile causes, and I was happy to donate to one or two, but it's gotten completely out of hand. My wife isn't happy because we are hurting financially and we can't afford to keep donating to things. I try to explain this to them on the phone, but they rarely take no for an answer. Now I'm sorry I ever donated to any of them. What can I do to put an end to this?

I'm on the Do Not Call list, so they must be exempt from it. Another thing I was wondering is if anyone knows how these organizations are related... there must be some connection between these charaties because I went for many years without ever hearing from one of them, but as soon as I donated to one, I started getting flooded with calls from others.. like the State Troopers send my name and number on to the next organization or something.. are all of these charaties branches of some larger organization? anyone know?

First off if you are getting calls about donating to a Firemen fund then you need to find out what company it is that is doing the calling because my husband is a Firemen and they have not been allowed to do this for sometime, most of the time when they meaning all of the different forms of police are calling for money it is going to placing that you may not think, I choose not to do this and donate to other charities although if they can provide you with detailed information about where you donation will be going then it may be legit, as for stoping the calls you can ask for a phone number that you call them back to make you decision and then I would contact your State District Attorney's office and find out what you can do if they don't stop calling then you can file harrasment charges againist the company that is handling the outgoing call center in which they are calling from. Best of Luck! And one more thing remember if you ask them not to call you again and they do then make records of that to show the district Attorney's office!

you can start by putting your # on the do not call list. go to donotcall.gov. but i think charities are exempt from that. each time they call, just speak firmly and say "i'm not interested, please take me off your list. thank you". and then hang up the phone. you can't let the trained telemarketers who have a script for every 'no' answer to keep talking. just hang up the phone. they may or may not take you off the list, but it will end the phone call. good luck!

Did you try putting your name on the Do-not-call list?

donotcall.gov

I am not sure whether it applies to charities, but must be worth a try.
