Ignorance 1) is a lack of knowledge. Ignorance is also a "state of being ignorant" or unaware/uninformed.
(pejorative definition) Ignorance 2) is the choice to not act or behave in accordance with regard to certain information in order to suit ones own needs/beliefs.
A lack of knowledge is not always bliss because in today's world, we tend to be more successful and able to make better decisions with more information that we are able to analyze. If you are unable to analyze data, often, we lose the concept of that information.
For example, many people take the word of others or what they read and are content to make it a belief they stand by. If they were to research that information (be more informed in order to make an intellectual choice rather than an opinion of others), they would probably change their mind, having armed themselves with an informed decision. This, very likely, falls into the second definition of ignorance, where we believe what we like regardless to available information.
So, in my opinion, ignorance is not blissful. People used to say, "What you don't know won't hurt you." Then someone wisely added, "...until you find out." :)

Depends on how long you can remain ignorant! At the time, being ignorant can be great, but once you realize what you didn't know, you feel like an idiot.

Ignorance is at least numbing. There have been situations where knowing the truth has caused me a great deal of pain.

No, it is precisely a fable...the ignorant wade by existence sensing a marginally uncomfortable rod, no longer shoved, yet placed into their rectum - to that end inflicting this; "('the place is it - what's it' i think caught some place i'd have difficulty to prevail in, as to do away with!) type of unnerving yet boring feeling. that's what first entered my strategies, as first effect! consequently, lack of understanding, have been it to be to that end, would infrequently be completely happy in any respect!

I guess it depends on what you are being ignorant about. I would say yes it is, because what you don't know can't hurt you....but sometimes not knowing hurts you more in the long run...so its really up in the air!
