chips are mostly marginal for gas engines. k%N filter and free flowing exhaust, like flowmaster. just change the muffles, or you can change the complete exhaust. either way a flowmaster muffler 40 or 50 series will really wake it up.

Be more specific about your truck and what year...it could help.

As far as "chips" go, you can re-program your engine's parameters like fuel curves, shift points, etc. A lot of these programmers are between $200-500 by themselves, but not $1000s. It will cost $1000s if you decide to add on, but the programmer will help simplify that process.

You can look into higher flowing air filters and larger exhausts, but don't get too nuts...going too big on the exhaust will rob power from you before it gives you more. After the filter and exhaust, you can add on things like a larger throttle body, hotter ignition, higher flowing injectors, new gears in the rear end (not HP, but quickness). Just remember...fuel + spark+ air = power. Once you've gotten that far, you'll need to look into power adders, which are very pricey. I don't know if they make superchargers for Dodge trucks...I've never seen them...and turbos are expensive and limited to what they can and can't go on. In fact...just skip the turbo idea--it's more trouble than it's worth UNLESS you're truck is diesel, in which case, things are a little different.

Also, get nitrous out of your head now. Someone in here always says nitrous like it's the ultimate power adder. It can be, in the right application with the proper knowldge of nitrous (which does not mean "it makes you go fast") and a 4x4 is not the proper application.

IF your truck is diesel, Bullydog, Banks, Superchips, etc all offer programmers (they do for gas engines too). I think Bullydog even offers a full-on kit with the programmer, the new intake, exhaust and some other toys and are taking trucks up to 1000 ft/lb of torque.

I think your best bet will be to start Googling and look for a website or forum for Dodge Trucks...they're definitely out there. Ask around in there since they're already Dodge owners and are familiar with what works and what doesn't...surely you'll get a better answer in there than mine, and definitely better than "nitrous".

To increase HP an engine needs to be able to 'breath' better.
Least expensive:
This is done by changing the air intake system to a ram air type set-up and changing the exhaust to headers and larger pipes/dual exhaust. Free flowing catalytic converters are also a way to having better air flow through the system.

Moderate expense:
Other ways to increase the amount of air (oxygen) entering the engine are to install turbo chargers or super chargers. These devices work by pressurizing the air entering the engine. Also adding a nitrous injection system will increase HP.
The next step is to add more fuel to this increased air. This can be done by changing the computer chip.

Expensive:
For more elaborate increases in HP you will need to do internal engine modifications like cam shafts, pistons and cylinder heads.

Note that all these changes can effect vehicle emissions so if you live in an area where vehicles have to be smog checked I wouldn't be doing anything more than what is listed under least expensive.

i dont really know what motor you have in the truck right now but you can get products through mopar chips and stuff like that but you have to program it through the computer in the truck by someone who is a professional and knows what they are doing, you can increase the cool air intake and run better fuel your dodge dealer, chris, fenton,mi hope that i could help

chips only work if you're prepared to go that route and spend 1000's of dollars on other tuner crap.

easiest thing is get some headers and a dual exhaust for better exhaust flow. will add a few HP.

then performance air filter and ignition system.

next step is a performance cam and heads and you're talking real money.

Yes, chips do help. Ebay is a good place to find cheaper chips than buying full price and they do the same thing, increase tourqe, horsepower, towing and fuel economy.

Yes chips work! Exhaust, K&N filter, nitrous, supercharger, its kida hard cuz I don't know what year you have! If it has a carb, a bigger one and new Hi-po intake, if its injected then bigger throttle body, air intake, headers,etc...

i dont really believe in computer chips but from what i hear they work pretty good. what i would suggest is they make diesel superchargers and they increse hp alot!
