Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from Trendmicro. When I have tested it it takes some time to run it but it may be time well spent if it can fix any problems.
Download and run http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048
Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.
Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/
Free disk space, make your computer run better/faster and protect your privacy - all in one easy solution. All for free!
Also do a disk cleanup and disk defrag.
Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Cleanup.
Follow the same path and do a disk defrag.
Enjoy your cleaner/faster computer.

This is the free version of pc cleanup:
1. Delete all unwanted files and software first.
2. Defrag your drive 3 or 4 times.
3. Adjust your minimum and maximum settings of the virtual
memory to 1.5 times that of your phycial ram.
4. R/click my computer/click properties/click advanced/click
performance settings/click advanced/click adjust for best
performance/close everything.
5. Download AVG - free - and scan your pc.
6. Download Spybot and Adaware - free - Scan with both.
That ought to make a big difference, but check out the ram. You may need a few more megs.
Have a good one

It could be... 1: Memory - either overheating, dirty, or faulty. 2: Hard Drive - bad or failing sectors 3: Faulty optical (CD/DVD) drive causing hangups on the IDE channel. 4: Power supply (underrated or faulty) 5: Virus/malware that has not been detected. 6: Faulty device driver. I would suggest using MalwareBytes AntiMalware and Super Antispyware to scan for malware, SDFix and ComboFix to find more subborn items, including rootkits. Check memory first, then optical drive, then hard drive and finally PSU. Failing that, it's probably a software issue (driver or porgram at start up/virus). Good luck!

Go to start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and then delete which ones you do not use or need.
Go to start>all programs>Accessories>System tools and defrag your computer and also run disc clean up.
At the top of your internet screen click on tools then internet options & delete cookies, history and files.
Install a anti-virus program (like http://www.home3.ca.com ) (CA ANTI-VIRUS)
You can download lots of things that can help your pc at http://www.filehippo.com
Delete anything off of your computer that you are not using any longer.
Buy some extra RAM at wal-mart or best buy.
Doing all of the above will give you more space on your computer and make it go faster.

Yes this will make your computer run alot faster. You can either go to control panel/add and remove programs/remove any old files you want to OR you can just reinstall the operating system which would be the best option i would for...
