This may be just a sensationalized article from the U.S. AP news but I read that there is a new type of marijuana plant that can be grown year-round called Colombian. It also resists pesticide. Do Mexican firms have the technology to genetically engineer plants like this? Or is it more likely to be a U.S. firm with a bootleg product?

By the US Government's own estimates, marijuana is the largest cash crop at 35 billion per year - about 50 percent bigger than the biggest crop.

There is a ton of research going on with corn and the corn crop is only about half the size of the marijuana crop.

Therefore, you could reasonably expect that there is a LOT of research going on to develop new strains. If this is true, it will be available through the regular outlets in the US before too long.

most crops are actually genetically engineered through breeding programs, plants with desirable characteristics are harvested and the seeds are saved, these plants become the parents of the next generation, thereby proliferating the desirable traits. Marijuana has been genetically engineered in this way for thousands of years

I read that this morning...they got some hybrid that is nearly impossible to destroy!

LOL

Edit: You know how much money is involved....it's a cash cow for Mexico.

Not too mention....they needed to compete with the better pot now being grown in the US.

Probably the same people who arrest drug dealers and sell their products and properties. The same people that keep troops all over the globe. Who could it be?
