I've also had severe cramps on 2 occasions. They were very painful, almost like labor pains! I was wondering if this was also normal?

Very normal he cramping can last 1 month and the spotting up to 6 months but ultimately it takes 1 year to really predict how your period will be and for your body to get fully adjusted to the IUD

Side Effects back to top

Both the ParaGard and the Mirena IUDs can cause longer, heavier, and more painful menstrual periods, but this is much less common with the Mirena. The increased blood flow may cause anemia. Spotting may occur without serious cause or as a sign of infection.

The Mirena IUD can cause ovarian cysts. Some women using the Mirena stop bleeding altogether. Usually their menstrual periods return when the IUD is removed. Mirena can cause weight gain, headaches, increased blood pressure, acne, depression, and decrease in sex drive.

wow, what horror reviews! I have had a quality enjoy with mine. I gave delivery and had mine installed at approximately nine months put up partum. it did harm slightly bit to get it installed however it quite used to be identical to a unexpected cramp and it went away. I used to be slightly crampy afterwards, however it felt like interval cramps. I bled for approximately every week afterwards and that used to be my interval. I had a different interval a month later and feature been very consistent in view that (I wasn't in any respect earlier than I used to be pregnant and I additionally bled plenty). my durations now final for one million or two days and I haven't any cramping. I've had it for approximately 6 months now with out a lawsuits in any respect. I'd advise it to any person. I'm certain it depends upon your frame. have you ever ever been on hormonal delivery manipulate? the mirena has no estrogen in it and really small quantities of progesterone, so it is quite *practically* hormone loose. if you happen to had been on a consistent estrogen/progesterone delivery manipulate capsule ever then there is no rationale the IUD could be any distinctive, if no longer bigger. if you were not, it is infrequent for there to honestly be a extreme response to it, from the whole thing I've learn and from the whole thing my health practitioner and nurses advised me approximately it.

Yes it is. I had the same problem, but the bleeding that I had lasted 2 months. It got so bad that I lost 20 pounds and became very sick. What helped me was birth control pills. Ask your doctor for birth control pills to stop the bleeding. You will get nervous at first because you will miss your cycle, but don't worry. That's supposed to happen. But do talk to your doctor NOW, before the problem gets severe. Hope this helped and Merry Christmas!!

Depends on how much bleeding you have. I would call your Dr because of the pain. I have the Mirena. I had it placed on the 3 rd day of my period. My period stopped..........I had a little pain in my back off and on but it went away and wasn't severe. I have had spotting off and on a lot since I had it placed but haven't had a real period.

Acording to the site and the literature, yes, it is normal.

They suggest wearing pads and taking ibuprophin.

Aleve will work better.
