I have had 2 pituitary tumors (Cushing's) and now GP says i have PCOS. I have not gotten pregnant in 7 years. Is there anything I can do other than going to a fertility specialist?

The best person to see about your PCOS is at LEAST an OB/GYN if not an endocrinologist since it is a hormone issue. I don't know your case history, and am not really familiar with Cushings anyway, but I do know that the treatments for PCOS often can help increase your chances of conceiving. How far you'll have to go to conceive depends on how serious your case is and how much you want a child. Some women are able to conceive with diet and weight loss (if weight is an issue, it isn't always as with me), sometimes only taking glucophage can help, and sometimes clomiphene citrate (Clomid) is needed to get the ovaries to do their job. That step is all the farther I had to go. I was lucky in that it didn't take long and there's only one in there. These are still relatively non-serious options, though, there are other more extremes. Like I said, it depends on how severe your case is. Find a real person to talk to though, don't try to learn it all online, it's scarier online.

It's kind of a mind trip when a doctor gives you a diagnosis that all but comes with a "Ha, good luck," attached to it, but there are options. Find a doctor who knows what they're talking about and make them give you answers. Also try the links below for books on PCOS. Good luck.

**If you need a specialist beyond your OB/GYN, they, or your GP, can give you a referral to ease the hassle of insurance coverage.

This is my standard answer......... go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler
This book will help you with all of your menstrual and conception questions. It’s for all women - not just women trying to conceive. It covers everything from temperature to mucus checking, etc.. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! It tells you how to figure out your cycle and what to expect. My husband and I tried for a year to conceive and nothing happened. The first month I used the book we conceived right away. Now I am due Feb 2. It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths!

I am guessing that up until now you have been doing what is needed to get pregnant so I would say pray and make that appointment. Maybe some medication will help. Good luck.
