First, notice the medium he draws with - pencil, charcoals, whatever. Then go to a good art store and ask to speak with someone who draws. Ask them what the best pencils and paper are, etc. Get a set of good pencils or charcoals and two sets of paper--one in a larger size and one smaller that he can keep in his briefcase or the glove compartment of his car, etc.

not sure if he'd love an easel, most sketchers would like a drawing pad. Go to your local art supply store and tell them he likes to draw, maybe they'll have a few different ideas for papers and pencils for you. Good luck, and Merry Christmas!

ME TOO! I absolutely LOVE to draw. If it was me, I'd like good paper and pencils, the ones made for drawing...not the cheap ones like printing paper and school pencils (which I use and hate using).

Someone said buy him a scanner, yes I would recommend doing that. I don't have one which makes me mad, I really want to scan my pictures.

actually as an artist, I hate when other people buy me supplies. I am very picky about what I use and no one ever gets me the right stuff. Maybe a gift certificate to an art store
