"W" said he could guide the world as leader. Who really thinks we can control and guide the entire world when so many problems are out of control here? I see a similarity to the U.S.S.R a few years ago in Afganistan and other regions, same or not?

If we worked first to make America a better place and began an education system that really educated children to be kind rather then produce generation after generation of competitors and control freaks maybe we could offer something to the world .
We have our share of problems in this great land .
Until we correct them we are in no position to lecture the world or even attempt to spread our way of life .
People routinely pass the homeless in the streets with little compassion or understanding of what is causing this .
I will get mine and you will get yours .
If competition is encouraged at the expense of others then for those at the top " losers " are inherent in this form of society .Who loses the most . Look at the stats on wealth in America and you can see who loses . All those people who need any kind of help in order to make it in a system geared only to success .
Those who try and fail are left to subsistence level survival at the expense of tax payers .
The poor are resented and blamed for higher taxes even though this current administration is dumping billions of dollars directly in the pockets of those they value most .
The defense Industry ,that Clinton cut funding to ,is making up in record time for any slow down in profits .
How does a group of millions of Americans paid with our taxes to build weapons of mass destruction aid our nation .
The massive debt we all pay as citizens working to support the agenda of those who profit from redistributing the wealth of America into the pockets of those who's only purpose is to kill others defines what our nation stands for .
We are what our educational system has made us into .
Competitors who must take ethics courses in how to secure government contracts and how to behave in conducting all aspects of corporate dealings .
Why should we need to re-educate Business professionals on matters of how to conduct operations .
Corporate spin doctors go to work everyday along with Madison Avenue to sell Americans on the Idea of what we need and who is good . Enron is a prime example of our system of education .
They began to operate like our government and failed only because they can not print money .
Had they had this ability to print money Enron would be in business today as a leader in energy technologies .
Until we become a truly kinder nation we have no business telling anyone what to do .
The few Americans who have come to the reality ,violence only leads to more violence, and controlling others strips them of their freedom , now accept a fundamental change in education is needed with a new philosophy of compassion and not competition . Working together to complete a task is preferable to selecting a single individual as the best worker and rewarding him with more in an effort to produce more by suggesting to others if you want to be paid like the top dog you must produce like the top dog .
The top dog did not do it on his own . The first one to reach the summit of Everest did not go alone .Lance Armstrong had a team of riders he drafted behind in order to attain win after win after win . Yes he is an exceptional athlete but alone he would just be riding a bike .
Do we need to be sold the basics like food , shelter ,and clothing .It is part of our culture to be different to .A man in a suit is treated better then a man in a tee shirt . We only accept those who dress in the manner to which we have been conditioned to see people . Would you by a Rolex from a black man on a street corner and assume you got a deal because it was stolen .
No overhead or advertising cost mean lower prices .
We are conditioned to believe that millions must be spent in order for anything to be good .Is a Rolex that much more accurate then a Seiko watch .
Having the best of something is all in the eye of the beholder .
The choices offered Americans on homes ,cars ,clothes, food stores home decor ,paint ,building materials ,and styles is all based on a class system . Once you become able to manipulate money to increase your wealth you will already be living in Luxury in most cases .
Those few individuals who make it to the top from nothing are held out and promoted because making it look fair and equitable is a nice touch in keeping the workers in line .
Any how once we become a better people then we can offer our help to the world .As it stands we still have miles and miles of room for improvement .We are not even close yet .Our Philosophy of life must change to reach the next plateau of mans development .

The US might have more success if it attempted to use influence rather than control. The world community should not stand idly by and watch events like Biafara take place, any more than they should have tolerated the genocide perpetuated against 6 million Jews prior to the second world war.

Where intervention is necessary to prevent such atrocities it would be highly desirable, even essential, to have an internationally sanctioned effort by a UN body do the intervening, only after it became clear that other measures would not work. That body would have to be given the manpower and the money needed to discharge any mission it undertook. Otherwise, the intervention could do more harm than good.

The US and other world countries should be working to attain this goal. To do this, it would be necessary to concede control in favor of influence.

No, the USA should not control the world. American principles of Liberty, self-reliance and self determination should be used by Nations Everywhere to further freedom and establish responsible behavior on behalf of all of humanity. That can be accomplished just as surely as we here in America can return those principles of responsibility to indvidual States where that authority should reside. It is wrong to permit Central Elitist Government to dominate the lives of everyone. All individuals are different. Government must represent the needs and desires of those they represent. That is Impossible when a Central Dictator tries to apply the same rules to Everyone Equally. There is no single perfect Law that applies to all situations, all cultures, and all individuals. Number One Rule: You can not use your freedom to suppress the freedom of someone else. The greatest crime is to rob someone of their Liberty unless that individaul is using that Liberty to cause harm. Rule number two: Everyone must act responsibly and be responsible for, and Liable for the outcome of their own actions. The best punishment is suffering the consequences of not providing for yourself. It is interesting to note that when people feel affluent, they become very charitable. Everyone needs help now and then, but a Welfare State that underwrites sloth nust never be allowed. Confiscating the assets of those who work hard and giving those assets to the dregs of society is not only extortion, but it promotes sloth and punishes productivity. Degradation of society and the economy results. If you place those responsibilities in the hands of Government, I guarantee you, Tyranny WILL eventually result.

No, I don't think America should control the world. Unfortunately, both political parties think we should. Ever since WWII America has this overwhelming need to spread democracy across the world (at our taxpayers and soldier's expense). As we have seen in Vietnam, Russia and Iraq, democracy isn't for everyone. Even if left to their own control, Russia and Iraq isn't cut out for democracy. I wish America would stop meddling in other country's affairs and focus on our own problems instead. Unfortunately, as long as there are Democrats and Republicans in our government, we will continue to see an American imperialism for years to come. I'm voting Independent in 2008, hopefully there will be a viable candidate to vote for.

As things are in America- America need to guide itself rather than trying to guide the world or any other countries.

if not the us who? somebody has to have an oversight of wrong doings by rogue countries. we tried to do that with the UN but it became the joke that it is. Somebody with a stable govt has to have oversight or an unstable govt will take that distinction.

Its a correlation of the Law of averages. There has to be a top and bottom.

From an outside perspective, there is very little difference in the way America is perceived today and the way Soviet Russia was perceived in the 50s and 60s.
