I'd be prepared to have a lot of unpayable bills by the end of January.

Seriously, though.... it depends on the sort of person (s)he is. I had the boss from hell once. For some reason I can't explain, I secretly quite liked him (to the horror of my colleagues). At the Xmas party I was ratar$ed, and when he finally asked me to dance, I came out with, "**** off you little ***"!! Luckily for me, he was equally drunk and found it hilarious. I was mortified the next day, but it didn't affect our working relationship at all in the long run. I still cringe about it though. It was dreadful.

Scarily enough, I'm a manager now, and it really doesn't bother me when my team say things to me outside work. On that basis, I'd say it wasn't the best career move, but if your boss is professional enough to separate work and drunken social gatherings, he or she is unlikely to be too bothered. I'd be extra polite for a while anyway, just in case!

If don't want to keep your job don't worry carry on looking for a new one. If you do want to keep the job deny the intent or lie low. You were probably all drunk, they might not have heard you properly, you said it to someone else, hey you say it to everyone when your drunk anything creative. Say it was a stupid joke that went wrong & appologise. Man, try not to worry, hey they are probably as embarrased as you! bring on the new yr :)

Private, humble apology and an assurance that it won't happen again.

The key is sincerity. If you can fake that, you may get away with it.

In the meantime, have a sherry or 10 and have a bIoody good Christmas.

I'd sign myself into rehab. If you are drinking that much in a situation where your livelihood is endangered, then you've shown a distinct lack of self preservation.
