I know you can post on sites like Youtube, but I believe they may become the owners of the material.

Posting to Flickr, youtube or whatever does not protect your material. You also need to let people know what license applies to your work.

You can publish your work under the creative commons license. There are different licences available to protect your IP. This tool : http://creativecommons.org/license/ helps you to select the right license for your purpose. It also tells you then how to use that license to protect your material on sites like flickr etc.

Take a look at http://creativecommons.org/ for more information and how exactly it works.

A good place to share larger files is box.net. You get 1GB storage for free. You can post your files and organize them in folder. People can then access them through a unique URL.
